Sheltering Arms Physical Rehabilitation Centers will open a new outpatient facility at Reynolds Crossing office park in Henrico County on Monday.
The center will be the rehabilitation company’s largest facility, occupying 18,000 square feet — the entire first floor — of the building at 6627 W. Broad St. First Tennessee Bank is leasing 5,355 square feet on the second floor of the 38,000-square-foot building.
Sheltering Arms programs and services offered at the new location will include physical therapy, medical care, medical psychology and an industrial rehabilitation program. The company is shifting services from a clinic it has operated on the Bon Secours St. Mary’s Hospital campus for the past 10 years to the new location.
“We were really squeezed at the other facility,” said James Braith, vice president of business development for Sheltering Arms. “We were not able to add any additional physicians or additional therapists. What we can do is simply offer a broader range of service and have more providers there” at the new site.
He said at least one physician will be added, along with several physical therapists.
Facility features include space for an amputee clinic, group exercise and community education programs, plus a therapy pool with an underwater treadmill.
“There are very few physical therapy providers who would have a pool like this. It’s more often found in university medical facilities,” Braith said.
Other advantages to the new location include accessibility and visibility, he said.
“It’s highly visible and very easy to access via Broad Street, Forest Avenue, Glenside Drive. It’s very easy to find and has all surface parking,” Braith said. “And we are on a campus that has a good number of other medical providers.”
The building is next to Plaza Azteca restaurant and near the corporate headquarters of Altria Group Inc. and Genworth Financial Corp.
Braith said the second-largest Sheltering Arms facility is probably the one at Bon Air, which occupies about 15,000 square feet.
Sheltering Arms also has centers across the region, including on the Bon Secours St. Francis Medical Center campus in Chesterfield County and on the Bon Secours Memorial Regional Medical Center campus in Hanover Country.
